Our mission

The Hungarian Environmental Partnership Foundation aims at enhancing the development of an environmentally aware, participatory democratic society and institutional system by strengthening and supporting the civil environmental movements.

The foundation promotes the development of the environmental movement trough providing grants, training, fellowships and technical assistance where necessary.

Civil Partner Trust Program

The program enhancing the sustainability and development of the Hungarian nonprofit sector started in 2003 with the support of the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe. In Hungary, three organizations received support from Trust: the Soros Foundation for institutional grantmaking, the Hungarian Environmental Partnership Foundation to enhance the development of the legal and regulatory environment of the nonprofit sector and the Civil Society Development Foundation Hungary for institutional capacity building.

In order to promote and strive for an NGO-friendly legal environment, HEPF carried out diverse activities in the framework of its Civil Partner Trust Program with its strategic partners – the European Center for Nonprofit Law (ECNL) and the Nonprofit Sector Analysis Project (NOSZA). Based on expert surveys, roundtables and other professional events the program established the theoretical basis of a comprehensive nonprofit legal reform. Beyond this, the Civil Partner Office efficiently influenced the creation of new acts and orders that are important for the NGO sector by giving up-to-date feedbacks to the civil legislation procedures, using formal and informal modes of advocacy and involving expert support. To track the efficiency of these activities we carried out intensive media work and media monitoring.
