Public control over an over pit mine in the 17th district of Budapest
The association, established in 1994 is working with the aim to improve the living conditions of people living in the Rákoscsaba-újtelep district of Budapest, and to enhance the representation of their interests. The organization supports environment-reconstruction programs and enhances public participation through informing local communities about new investments and other information. From the beginning they are working to solve the environmental problems caused by the waste dump that was formed at the earlier Naplás street gravel pit.
HEPF supported the development of a monitoring system, which will help control whether the new open pit, created during the building of the M0 highway is ran properly. The association feels that the local government didn’t pay enough attention to many important aspects during the authorization and preparation process. They want to ensure that the mine will cause the least possible pollution to the neighboring inhabited area and the recultivation obligations will be fulfilled.
