Ecological Institute for Sustainable Development – Conserving native fruit species at Gömör
Extensive orchards of Gömörszőlős have been significant semi-natural habitats for centuries, which accomodated significant biodiversity. Most of them are not cultivated any more, and are threatened by extinction as aggressive species are taking up more and more place. Reasons for this are that as old people, who cultivated these gardens passionately die, the local young generation doesn’t see how they could make a living from keeping the extensive orchards.
The organization aims at conserving biodiversity through cultivating the native fruit species.
